About Paxos
Today’s financial infrastructure is archaic, expensive, inefficient and risky — supporting a system that leaves out more people than it lets in. So we’re rebuilding it.
We’re on a mission to open the world’s financial system to everyone by enabling the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way. For over a decade, we’ve built blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes, custodies, trades and settles assets for the world’s leading financial institutions, like PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard and Interactive Brokers.
About the Team
Our Finance & Accounting team owns the integrity of Paxos’ financial records and provides the insight and controls that let us scale a regulated, multi-entity financial services business with confidence. We partner closely with Treasury, Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Compliance and Commercial teams to ensure our financial infrastructure, data and reporting keep pace with a platform that is constantly shipping and expanding into new products and markets.
About the role
We are looking for a Controller to own the integrity of Paxos’ financial records and build the accounting infrastructure to support a fast-scaling, regulated financial services business. Reporting to the CFO, you will lead the close process, own our external audit, set accounting policy, and serve as a financial architecture partner to our Product and Engineering teams as they build and evolve the platform.
This is not a maintenance role. Paxos moves fast, ships constantly, and operates across multiple regulated entities. You will be in the room when new products are designed, new fund flows are drawn up, and we expand to new regions. Your job is to keep the accounting function close to the business, make sure it can keep pace, and ensure finance is never a bottleneck or a blind spot.
What you’ll do
Own the close and financial statements. Drive the monthly, quarterly and annual close end-to-end for all Paxos entities, ensuring timely, accurate financials with zero tolerance for material misstatements. Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and, where required, local reporting requirements.
Set and defend accounting policy. Lead technical accounting research for new products, transactions and structures; conclude and document positions; and translate complex conclusions into clear policies, processes and system requirements. Stay ahead of regulatory developments at FASB, SEC and OCC that affect how Paxos accounts for its business.
Own financial audit and controls. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors from planning through final sign-off. Design, implement and maintain a strong internal controls framework that is fit for an OCC‑regulated trust company and support regulatory examinations and inquiries.
Be a financial architecture partner for the business. Work with Product and Engineering at the design phase of new products, features and fund flows to ensure accounting treatment is understood, the platform can support it, and data flows enable accurate and timely financial reporting.
Shape quote-to-cash and revenue recognition. Partner with commercial and legal teams to design scalable quote‑to‑cash processes and ensure commercial contracts support the desired revenue recognition outcomes.
Build the team and infrastructure. Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals, hiring ahead of the need. Drive automation and process improvement so close, reconciliation and reporting scale with the business without proportional headcount growth.
About you
CPA required.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including time in fast-scaling or complex, multi-entity environments.
Deep US GAAP technical accounting knowledge with a demonstrated ability to research, conclude and document complex issues.
Proven ability to partner directly with Product and Engineering teams on financial system design, fund flow architecture or platform build‑outs, as well as with GTM teams on quote‑to‑cash and revenue recognition.
Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can make an accountant’s concern legible to an engineer, and an engineer’s constraint legible to an auditor or regulator.
Comfortable moving fast and making decisions with incomplete information, then updating your view as the facts change.
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to drive process efficiency to automate reconciliations, financial close tasks and reporting workflows to reduce manual effort
Experience in a fintech, crypto‑native company or regulated financial services environment (banking, payments, broker‑dealer, trust company) is a plus.
