DevOps Lead
CloudLess Labs
DevOps Lead
Fluence is the first decentralized “Cloudless” computing platform, providing an open alternative to the giant internet cloud monopolies. Fluence is up to 80% cheaper than cloud providers and is both resilient and verifiable. Fluence assembles excess compute capacity from top tier data centers around the world into a global, always-on DePIN network that is suitable for running a wide range of applications. The platform is open, allowing users to change providers easily, ensuring that prices stay low and service levels are high.
Role Overview:
As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you will play a critical role in leading a team responsible for developing and managing a Kubernetes-based infrastructure solution, integrated with KubeVirt for virtual machine management, across multiple hardware providers. You will collaborate with development teams, hardware provider’s representatives, and product managers to design and deliver robust, scalable solutions that provide compute resources to our clients. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will drive innovation, ensure platform reliability, and mentor engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DevOps engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, best practices, and continuous learning.
- Coordinate team efforts across multiple hardware providers to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Platform Architecture and Design:
- Architect and design Kubernetes-based solutions using KubeVirt to enable flexible compute resource provisioning (VMs, containers, network access, and more) across multi-provider environments.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-availability, fault-tolerant infrastructure with a focus on scalability and cost optimization.
- Automation and CI/CD:
- Lead the implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automated provisioning, scaling, and management of the infrastructure.
- Define and manage CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid deployment of code changes while ensuring platform stability and security.
- Monitoring, Logging, and Troubleshooting:
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) to ensure performance, availability, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, and virtual machines.
- Security and Compliance:
- Enforce security best practices across Kubernetes clusters, virtual machines, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., RBAC, network policies, secrets management).
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and implement data protection mechanisms.
- Client Engagement:
- Work closely with product managers and clients to understand requirements and deliver infrastructure solutions that meet their compute needs.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients, ensuring that the infrastructure is tailored to their use cases.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or similar roles with a focus on cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and virtualization.
- At least 2 years of experience leading or managing a team of engineers.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes (K8s), containerization (Docker), and orchestration.
- Experience with KubeVirt for managing virtual machines in Kubernetes environments.
- Expertise in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Kubernetes management and configuration.
- Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (compute, networking, storage) and cloud-native technologies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong automation skills using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and security tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, HashiCorp Vault).
- Experience with container runtimes, network policies, and service meshes (e.g., Istio).
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to mentor engineers.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on creating innovative and efficient solutions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

About Cloudless Labs
At Cloudless Labs, we are working on new decentralized network protocols to make the internet more open and secure. We believe that open source and open protocols enable better technology for the future of humanity.
Cloudless Labs is a distributed team of engineers residing across the US, Asia, and Europe. Our culture is remote-first, self-managed, and we value transparent decision making and an open source ethos.
Our primary project is Fluence, a decentralized serverless platform & computing marketplace powered by blockchain economics. Fluence is a global, permissionless, scalable, and secure alternative to centralized cloud computing platforms. Using Fluence, developers build and deploy applications to a network of compute providers, who compete on price and performance and, to be paid and earn rewards, they constantly prove that they are serving applications.
We are looking for new great additions to the Cloudless Labs core team. We would like to speak to people who are interested in decentralized technology, empathetic, humble, passionate about their work, and strive for excellence. We expect that candidates are experts in their field, keep up to date with recent developments, and are excellent communicators, both in oral and written form.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation and equity options
- Remote-first, work from home or use a co-working space of your choice
- Friendly startup environment: no bureaucracy or time tracking
- We will provide you with anything you need to learn, grow, and be more productive
